          Information For Friesian Buyers

At Top Hat Friesians the majestic beauty and talent of the Friesian breed captured our hearts. We are dedicated to breeding and offering for sale, top quality, athletic Friesian horses. We have high standards and are dedicated to matching horses of this noble breed with suitable owners and families. We have both domestic and imported Friesians for your consideration. We are diligent in our search for and selection of Friesians who represent the noble disposition, athletic ability, high intelligence, temperament and wonderful personality that is characteristic of the breed. Friesians are often referred to as "puppy dogs" because of their adorable personalities. Friesians are also very "willing to work" and give highly of themselves in the training arena.

While everyone loves the breathtaking beauty of a "fairytale Friesian" and their natural gait, we also know the importance of strength, versatility and type within the breed. We look deeper than the majestic beauty of Friesians in order to hand pick a variety of versatile Friesians and offer exceptional horses to fit a wide range of needs. Whether you are a trainer looking for a green horse or a rider looking for a top level competitor in your Friesian, we aim to provide you with a sound horse that will suit your needs.

To accomplish our goal, we are continually deepening our knowledge of the breed and staying abreast of the current trends in breeding. We search and research to find the best horses for you, our customers.

Whether you're looking for a Friesian that is suitable for highly competitive levels of Dressage or Carriage Driving, or if you're looking for a broodmare, trail or pleasure riding or a family horse, we strive to offer you the Friesian of your dreams. You can choose from quality Friesians as newborn foals, or pick fillies, colts, mares and pregnant mares, geldings, and stallions from Foalbook to Ster status with excellent pedigrees and Motherlines.

What should you look for in a Friesian as you search for that special addition to your family? In the paragraphs below we'll explain what we look for in our horses.

The first criteria that we consider before purchasing a Friesian for our stable or for resell is the temperament of the horse. Is the horse easy to work with, safe, and does it have good ground manners? Does the horse have large round eyes with a soft curious look? Or does it seem spooky and untrusting with narrow eyes? How does this horse get along with other horses? Does it have basic training? Has it been imprinted? Does it load, clip, tie, bath, stand for the farrier? We look for Friesians that have positive traits and a good solid temperament, that's easy to handle and safe.

We also look at the Friesian's health. We do not import Friesians that have had health problems, are prone to colic or upper respiratory infections, have ever been lame or have other health problems. We offer you healthy Friesians.

Next we consider the horses confirmation and movement. We specifically want horses that are excellently conformed. We look for proportionate horses with a refined throat latch, small, well shaped head, long neck, an uphill conformation with hooves and legs that are proportionate to the horse's body size. Both natural movement and how the Friesian moves under saddle are considered depending upon the age and training level of the horse. We look for forward motion, extension, suspension of the trot and sense of balance.

While beauty is important, it is not our first criteria. We look for horses with deep blue-black coats, nice feathering and thick manes and tails (the longer the better).

At Top Hat Friesians we know that owning a Friesian is a big investment. That is why we will help you find the right horse for you if we don't currently own one that grabs your heart. We also understand that sometimes owners have to resell their Friesians. Because of the care we take in purchasing Friesians you can be assured that your resell value will reflect our efforts in bringing you a quality horse.

We are very excited about the Friesian breed and are proud to be owners, breeders and riders of these majestic horses. We hope you enjoy visiting our site.
